What does shaded mean on a saree?
The fabric is dyed so the tone changes gradually along its length rather than staying constant. On a drape that means the pallu and the lower body sit at different depths of the same shade, with the transition visible as the pleats present several sections at once.
Does the shading affect how the saree should be draped?
It is worth thinking about. Because the tone changes along the length, where you set the pleats decides which part of the gradient falls at the front and which is carried over the shoulder. Draping the same saree two ways can produce noticeably different results.
Why combine embroidery with stone work?
They give different kinds of light. Thread reflects softly and follows the lines of a motif, while a set stone holds a hard fixed highlight. Using both means the design has structure from the stitching and sharp points of interest from the stones.
What blouse fabric is supplied?
Satin silk, as a 0.80 metre unstitched piece. It is a different fabric from the shaded organza satin of the drape, which gives the blouse a steady single tone against a saree whose colour changes along its length. A tailor cuts it to measurement.
