What does heavy mean on a lehenga?
Heavy usually refers to the density of the surface work rather than the fabric alone. A heavily worked lehenga carries more embroidery, zari and sequin coverage, which adds real weight to the garment. Expect a substantial skirt rather than a light one across a long function.
How do zari and sequin work differ?
Zari is metallic thread stitched into the fabric, so it reads as fine lines of shine following the line of the pattern. Sequins are separate reflective discs stitched on individually, giving broader flashes. Together they produce two different scales of reflection rather than one uniform glitter.
Why is a heavy lehenga built on silk?
Silk has body and weight of its own, so it carries dense surface work without distorting where the stitching pulls. A lighter fabric such as net or tissue would pucker or sag under the same coverage, which is why heavily worked sets are normally built on silk or velvet.
Is pista green too pale for heavy work?
It works the other way round. A pale ground lightens a heavily worked set, stopping it from reading as too formal or too dense. Pista also gives strong contrast for zari and sequins to sit against, so the work reads clearly rather than disappearing into the base.
