Why does an abstract print suit a pre-pleated saree?
Because there is no motif that has to line up or repeat evenly. The design runs across the drape as a continuous field, so the pleats never cut a flower or a border in half the way they can on a placed print with a defined pattern.
What is the blouse fabric like?
It is stitched in fancy net. Net is an open mesh, so the blouse reads as light and slightly sheer against the solid satin of the saree. It is made to fit up to 38 inch with margin inside the seams so a tailor can let it out to 42 inch.
Is sequence embroidery the same as sequin work?
Yes. Sequence embroidery is the owner's wording for sequin work, meaning small flat discs stitched onto the surface of the cloth. They reflect light in points as you move, which is what gives the saree its sparkle without adding any real weight to the drape.
How long does this take to wear?
About a minute. The pleats are already formed and secured into the garment, so there is no tucking, hand pleating or pinning involved. You step into the drape and set the pallu over the shoulder, and the fall looks the same every time you wear it.
