Why do some sarees splay open at the pleats?
Fabric without body cannot hold a fold, so the pleats separate as you walk and the front of the drape loses its column. Georgette has a fine grain that gives it enough stiffness to keep a fold in place, which is why the pleats stay aligned through an evening.
How many pleats suit a georgette saree?
Five to seven is a common range, fewer than chiffon needs because the fabric already has body. Pin them together at the top before tucking so they move as one unit. Too many pleats in a fabric with body creates bulk at the waist rather than a cleaner fall.
Is blue formal or casual on a saree?
It reads as neither, which is the reason it is so useful. Blue carries an office function without looking ceremonial and an evening event without looking plain. The blouse and jewellery set the register: silver-grey and pearls keep it restrained, gold moves it towards festival wear.
What should I wear under this saree?
A plain fitted petticoat in blue or a neutral shade is enough. Georgette is opaque, so unlike a chiffon or organza drape the lining is not visible through the fabric, and its role is simply to give the pleats a smooth base to sit against at the waist.
