What is a saree fall and do I need one?
A fall is a strip of cloth stitched along the inside of the lower border. It protects the hem from the abrasion of walking, adds enough weight for the pleats to hang straight, and on a sheer saree gives the lower section some opacity. Most new sarees need one.
What is pico work?
Pico is a fine rolled edge stitched along the raw sides of a saree so the weave cannot fray. On a fabric like chiffon, which frays readily, it is close to essential rather than optional. Any tailor or saree shop does it cheaply, usually within a day.
Do fall and pico come already done?
Not usually, and this listing does not say. Sarees are generally sold unfinished so the buyer can choose the fall colour and have the work done locally. Budget a small amount and a day's turnaround for it before you plan to wear a new saree.
Does a fall change how the saree hangs?
Noticeably. The added weight along the lower border gives the pleats something to pull against, so they hang straight instead of lifting and fanning. On a very light fabric like chiffon that difference is the main reason a fall is worth having stitched.
