What is soft silk?
It describes a silk woven and finished to a lighter, more pliable handle than the heavy traditional silks. Where a dense silk holds sharp planes and stands away from the body, soft silk bends readily and pleats without bulk, so it settles against the figure instead.
Is soft silk easier to wear than heavy silk?
Noticeably. A heavy silk saree carries real weight across the shoulder for the length of a function, and many people find that tiring. Soft silk gives you the same sheen and depth of colour with far less mass, which makes a long event much more comfortable.
How should a silk saree be stored?
Wrapped in a cotton or muslin cloth rather than in plastic, which traps moisture against the fibre. Refold it along a different line every few months so a crease does not set permanently, and keep it out of direct light, which fades silk over years.
Does silk mark easily with water?
It can. Water leaves a ring on some silks as it dries, because it disturbs the way the fibres lie. Blotting a spill immediately with a dry cloth, rather than rubbing or adding more water, gives the best chance of avoiding a visible mark.
