Is chiffon durable enough for regular wear?
More than it looks. The yarn is hard-twisted, so each thread is stronger than its fineness suggests, and a chiffon saree in rotation usually lasts well. What tends to finish one is a single snag pulling a thread, rather than the fabric gradually wearing thin.
What is most likely to damage a chiffon saree?
A snag. Raised ring settings, rough nails, velcro straps and unfinished wooden furniture are the common culprits, since an open weave gives a thread somewhere to catch. Taking rings off before draping prevents most of the damage people actually experience.
Does folding a saree in the same place weaken it?
Over years it can. A fold line repeatedly pressed in the same position eventually weakens the fibres along it, which is why old sarees often split at a crease rather than in open cloth. Hanging, or refolding along a different line, avoids that.
Which part of the saree lasts longest?
The border. Zari woven along the edge gives that section more body and more thread density than the open ground of the saree, so it holds up long after the field has begun to thin. The same is true of the seams and the reinforced fall.
