What is jacquard work on a saree?
Jacquard is a pattern woven into the cloth on the loom rather than printed or embroidered onto the surface afterwards. Because the design is part of the weave structure, it cannot crack, peel or wash away, and it usually shows in inverted form on the reverse face.
Is poly silk the same as silk?
No. Poly silk is polyester woven to imitate the surface of silk. It is lighter in the hand, holds dyed colour strongly, resists creasing better than a natural fibre and has a firmer, drier handle. It is not silk and does not behave like silk against the skin.
Does this saree crease during travel?
Poly silk resists creasing considerably better than cotton or a natural silk would, which is one of the practical reasons it is used for occasion sarees. Folded normally in a bag it should come out with little more than soft fold lines rather than sharp pressed creases.
Which occasions suit a red jacquard saree?
Red is the shade most often chosen for pujas, festive gatherings and family celebrations, and the woven jacquard finish keeps it reading traditional rather than modern. It works for daytime and evening alike, since a woven pattern does not depend on light the way sequins do.
Does the pattern show on the back of the saree?
Usually yes, in inverted form, because a jacquard design is built into the weave rather than applied to one face. That also means the motif catches light differently along different edges, depending on which way the woven threads run at that point.
