What is khatli work?
Khatli work is hand embroidery done on a stretched frame. The fabric is pulled taut over a wooden khatli and worked from underneath with a hooked needle, which allows very fine dense chain stitching and accurate bead placement. It is slower than machine work and shows small natural variations.
How do wine and black read together?
On a two tone weave the two colours sit in different thread directions, so the drape looks close to black where light hits it flat and reveals its wine undertone where the fabric turns. The effect is strongest in the pleats, where several angles are visible at once.
Why is the blouse tissue rather than satin?
Tissue is fine and shimmery, so a tissue blouse adds a different quality of light against a deep two-tone drape rather than repeating the same satin sheen. The specification records it as black tissue, stitched to a 38 inch fit with a 42 inch margin.
Can this saree be re-draped in a different style?
No. It is a ready-to-wear saree, so the pleating is stitched into the garment and the drape is fixed in that arrangement. If you want the freedom to style the pallu differently, an ordinary regular saree is the right choice instead.
How should khatli embroidery be cleaned?
Dry clean only, as recorded on the specification. Hand embroidery worked on a frame is held entirely by thread through the ground cloth, and machine agitation pulls at those stitches. Dry cleaning protects both the embroidery and the satin weave underneath it.
