What is moti work on a saree?
Moti is the Indian word for a bead or pearl, so moti work simply means beadwork. On this saree rounded moti beads are stitched onto the surface alongside sequins in two sizes, giving a mix of rounded highlights and flat reflective discs across the crepe ground.
Why does purple look deeper on crepe?
Crepe has a matte surface that absorbs light rather than bouncing it back. A glossy fabric such as satin reflects light off the top of the colour and lightens how it reads. Without that reflection the purple on this saree appears more saturated and darker to the eye.
Does pure crepe silk crease easily?
Crepe is woven from tightly twisted yarn, which gives it more natural recovery than a flat weave. It handles sitting and travel reasonably well. The care instruction specifies dry-cleaning for the first wash, which is also the safest treatment for the sequin and moti work stitched onto it.
What blouse fabric is supplied?
The blouse piece is 0.80 m of Japan poly and arrives unstitched. It is a different fabric from the pure crepe silk of the drape, so the blouse will handle and reflect light differently. Your tailor will cut it to your own fit, neckline and sleeve length.
Is this saree heavy to carry through an evening?
Crepe silk has a fluid weight that falls downward rather than standing out, so it feels substantial on the shoulder without creating bulk. The sequin and moti work adds a little surface weight. Most wearers find a crepe drape comfortable for a full evening function.
