What is gota work?
Gota is a flat metallic-look ribbon, traditionally associated with Rajasthan, that is folded and stitched onto fabric to build outlines, borders and motifs. Because it is a ribbon rather than a thread, it covers area quickly and reflects light in flat planes rather than fine lines.
How is cord embroidery different from ordinary thread work?
Cord embroidery lays a fine cord on the surface and stitches it down along its length, so the line is raised and continuous. Ordinary thread work builds the line from individual stitches, which sits flatter. Cord gives motifs height that you can feel with a fingertip.
What does dual-tone mean in the fabric?
One shade runs lengthwise in the weave and another runs crosswise. As the cloth folds and turns, the two catch light unevenly, so the colour shifts between warmer and cooler readings across the drape. The effect is woven in, so it cannot fade or wash away.
What lengths are supplied?
The saree is 5.50 m and the blouse piece is a separate 0.80 m unstitched cut in blue raw silk, sized for 32-42 inches. The blouse fabric is additional to the saree length rather than taken from it, and needs a tailor before the saree can be worn.
